Pioneers Dominate the National Finals Steer Roping

Western Oklahoma State College once again proved its legacy of excellence in the arena as both current and former Pioneers delivered powerhouse performances at the National Finals Steer Roping. With titles at the top of the leaderboard, Western's presence was unmistakable—and unforgettable.

Leading the charge was Western alum Cole Patterson, who added another historic chapter to his already remarkable career. Patterson earned the World Championship for the third consecutive year—his fourth overall—cementing his status as one of the sport's elite competitors. His dominance continued as he claimed victory in Round 10, showcasing the consistency, precision, and grit that define a true champion.

Adding to Western's standout showing was Coach Jess Tierney, who not only guides today's student-athletes but continues to set the standard in the sport. Tierney was crowned the Average Champion, becoming the only contestant among the 15 to rope and tie all 10 steers—a rare and extraordinary accomplishment that reflects a mastery of skill and endurance.

Together, Patterson and Tierney demonstrated the strength, tradition, and competitive spirit that define Western's rodeo program.

Join us in congratulating our current Pioneers and proud alumni on an unforgettable performance at the National Finals Steer Roping!
