Lady Pioneers Season Recap

Lady Pioneers Season Recap

Lady Pioneers Close Season with Historic Milestones and 18 Wins

The Western Oklahoma State College Women's Basketball team wrapped up a historic season with an 18–12 overall record, marking the program's most successful year in two decades.

The Lady Pioneers entered the Region 2 Tournament as the No. 4 seed after an impressive regular season that saw the program reach several milestones not accomplished in over 20 years.

Among the highlights of the season were:

  • Most overall wins in 20 years (18)

  • Most conference wins in 20 years (10)

  • More conference wins than the previous five seasons combined

  • Most regular season wins in 20 years

  • Most home wins since the 2018–19 season

  • Most road wins in 20 years

The season also featured several individual milestones as three Lady Pioneers surpassed the 500 career point mark this season. Tazhia Watson and Aaliyah Young each reached the milestone earlier in the year, while Audrey Cline joined the group in the team's final game after scoring her 11th point of the night. The achievement highlights the offensive leadership and consistency of the Pioneer trio throughout their careers.

Western also saw standout recognition across the conference as Aaliyah Young earned All-Region honors, representing the Pioneers among the top players in Region 2.

Head Coach Wade Waley, who completed his first season leading the program, praised the team's resilience and the leadership of the sophomore class.

"This season was nothing short of a huge success," Waley said. "To finish top four in conference with 10 wins and get to 18 wins overall while beating some good non-conference teams along the way has laid a foundation to create even more success in the future."

Waley also highlighted the impact of the team's sophomore class.

"The eight sophomores who finished out the year deserve a standing ovation in my opinion. To accept a new head coach and face challenges from different expectations but rise to the occasion shows an extreme level of trust, grit, and togetherness. We wouldn't have had this season without them, and for that I am forever grateful."

With a record-setting year in the books and strong leadership throughout the roster, the Lady Pioneers have positioned themselves for continued success in the seasons ahead.
